Dr. Max Lum

Director of the Office of Health Communication
CDC/National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)

Before his retirement from NIOSH in 2011, Dr. Lum was the Director of Communication and served as the team lead for the Institute‘s International programs. Prior to joining NIOSH in 1995, he was the Division Director at the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, CDC in Atlanta, responsible for the agencies health professional and community education programs.

Dr. Lum completed his doctoral and master‘s training at the University of Southern California with an emphasis on communication and public management. He currently is the senior advisor on e-communication and research translation in the Office of the Director at NIOSH. In addition, he is the chair of the ICOH Communications network and serves as their observer to the ISSA Education for Prevention Section.
