Lorne Davies is a Safety Advisor and Combustible Dust Specialist at the Manufacturing Safety Alliance in BC. He has spent his career working in BC, from Prince Rupert to the lower mainland to the Okanagan. He has diverse experience within his safety role, from Mine Recue team and Volunteer Firefighting roles in the mining industry to behavior-based safety programs in the sawmill industry, to construction site safety management. In 2008 he moved to the biofuel industry where combustible dust is the source of the products being produced. As Director of Safety and Environment, Lorne oversaw six operating plants and a port facility, developing programs to achieve COR certification, injury reduction, contractor management, combustible dust management and fire risk reduction. The process experience of fire protection systems, spark detection systems, explosion protection and their limitations are valuable in his present role with the Alliance. Lorne has a diploma in Civil Engineering Technology from Okanagan College and has continued to expand his knowledge of occupational health and safety through distance learning courses offered through BCIT, Dalhousie University, the NFPA and CSA. He has maintained his CRSP designation since 2010.
